The above Clinical Leads manage a diverse pool of services with the help of an 80 strong Radiologist pool who are in substantive NHS positions, GMC registered and are all UK based.

 

Dr Ben Timmis – Medical Director

Dr Ben Timmis, FRCR, qualified in 1975, and became a consultant radiologist at The Whittington Hospital NHS Trust in 1985. In 1987 he was appointed Director of Imaging and Head of Department, and in 1990, he was elected as Chairman of the Medical Advisory Staff Committee. In 1992, he was appointed as the first Medical Director of the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust, a post he held for 5 years, before returning to clinical practice, where he had a special interest in vascular, interventional and GI radiology up to his semi-retirement from the NHS in late 2010. He is also lead consultant radiologist at the Hospital of St. John & St. Elizabeth, and a consultant radiologist at The Wellington Hospital in London, as well as Medical Director of the London Upright MRI Centre. He has been associated with 4WHC since its foundation, as consultant radiology advisor, and was appointed as Medical Director of 4Ways in September 2011 

 

Professor Anthony Watkinson - CT Whole Body Clinical Lead

Professor Watkinson graduated in metallurgy from Sheffield University with a first class honors’ degree in 1977. He completed an MSc in metallurgy at Oxford University before switching to study medicine in London at the Royal Free Hospital graduating in 1984. Professor Watkinson initially trained in Surgery completing his FRCS in 1988 before completing his FRCR in 1991. After working in Bristol and London he travelled to Vancouver in Canada in 1992 to complete a GI and GU fellowship. After further spells of fellowship study in Seattle, London and Perth, Australia he took up post as Consultant Radiologist and Senior Lecturer at the Royal Free Hospital, London from 1994-2002 moving to the South West in 2003.

Professor Watkinson has authored or edited over 130 original scientific articles, numerous review articles and 13 textbooks in the field of Radiology. This includes chapters on liver imaging in the Oxford Textbook of Hepatology and Sutton’s Diagnostic Radiology.

Professor Watkinson was President of the British Society of Interventional Radiology from 2007-9 and has served as a council member of the Royal College of Radiology from 2008-11.

 

Dr Andrew Wright – CT Colonoscopy/Cardiac CT Lead

Dr Wright studied at University College Medical School London and qualified in 1981.  He received accreditation from the Royal College of Radiologists in 1991, beginning his Radiology career at Guy’s Hospital London in 1985.  Dr Wright’s career has progressed to his current position within the Imperial College Trust as Consultant Radiologist and Lead Clinician at St Mary’s Hospital London where he is also Honorary Senior Lecturer.  In the last fifteen years Dr Wright has specialised in CT Colonoscopy, Cardiac CT and Chest CT reporting.

 

Dr Maneesh Patel - Neuroradiology Clinical Lead

Dr Patel is the Consultant Neuro-Radiologist and Lead Clinician at Charing Cross Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.  Dr Patel qualified with first class honors’ degree in Radiological Sciences in 1987 from Guy’s and St Thomas’ and became FRCR in 1997.   Within his current post he applies his tertiary level expertise in diagnostic Neuroradiology, ENT Radiology, Spinal Radiology and Interventional Neuroradiology.

 

Dr Deborah Cunningham – Mammography Clinical Lead

Dr Cunningham has been a Consultant Radiologist at St Mary’s (now part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust) for 30 years and during that time her major subspecialty area has been Breast Imaging. Dr Cunningham helped set up one of the first One Stop Breast Clinics and has provided the imaging for these busy clinics ever since. Dr Cunningham is now the Lead Clinician for Women’s Cancer at Imperial which includes all of the breast service both symptomatic and screening, including the West of London Breast Screening Service.

As Lead Clinician Dr Cunningham is involved in monitoring the standards of service and individual performance of Radiologists and Surgeons and she is committed to improving both the process that women experience and the quality of clinical outcomes. Dr Cunningham has also increased the research profile of the unit evaluating novel ultrasound and mammographic techniques.

Despite her managerial responsibilities her prime commitment has always been to clinical work and the diagnosing and treating patients.

 

Dr Sarah Burnett – MSK and 4Ways Clinical Lead

Dr Sarah Burnett studied medicine at King's College and then Westminster, qualifying in 1985. After gaining her MRCP in 1988, she started training to be a radiologist at St Bartholomew's, spending a year in research at St Mark's. In 1993 she started her job as a consultant at St Mary's and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. Her subspecialty area is musculoskeletal imaging. She obtained her MBA in 1995. Sarah spent five years as Admissions Tutor for Medicine at Imperial College. Since 2001 she has been in Independent practice in Central and North West London. She is a Licensed Practitioner of NLP. Sarah also has an MA in Creative Writing, and is a regular blogger, writer and broadcaster.

 

Professor Iain Lyburn – PET/CT Audit Lead

Professor Lyburn studied at the University of Bristol and qualified in 1991, becoming FRCR in 1998.  His current role is as Clinical Lead for PET/CT and research at the Cheltenham Imaging Centre. As part of this role he is the chair of the Radiation Protection Committee. He is also the director of the Gloucestershire Breast screening program.  He is a member of the National subcommittee for Radionuclide Radiology and represents the region on the Radionuclide training committee.

 

Dr Charlotte Fowler - Nuclear Medicine / Molecular Imaging Clinical Lead

Dr Fowler studied at the University Of Wales College Of Medicine and qualified in 1993 becoming a FRCR in 2000, she attained Msc in Nuclear Medicine with distinction from Kings College London in 2003.  She currently holds the position of Consultant Radionuclide Radiologist at Luton and Dunstable Hospital and is a full gamma diagnostic ARSAC licence holder within this role she has developed a comprehensive nuclear medicine service. Dr Fowler is also responsible for the teaching and training of registrars and consultants including Cambridge Radiology Registrars.

 

Dr Vivek Malhotra & Dr Jaswinder Singh – Out of Hours Clinical Leads

Dr Vivek Malhotra and Dr Jaswinder Singh are Joint Leads for the 4Ways Out of Hours acute reporting service. 

Dr Singh has held the position of Consultant Radiologist at Watford General Hospital since 2004.  Within this role he provides general Radiology and Cross Sectional Reporting with a special interest in Chest Radiology. He also supports the trusts on call rota and also takes responsibility for assisting in departmental management, inter departmental meetings and teaching.

Dr Malhotra has held the position of Consultant Radiologist at the West Herts Hospital NHS Trust since 2008 he is also the Ultrasound Clinical Lead for the Trust.  He also supports the Trust’s on call rota.
